Interior Designer St. Louis Jessie 2018 2+(2)

Jessie D. Miller is an award-winning, nationally published interior designer based in St. Louis. She brings over 10 years of design, construction, and development experience together with a creative soul and an artistic eye. In addition to consistently taking home several wins at the St. Louis Magazine Architect and Design Awards, as well as the Ladue Design Awards she has been published locally in DesignSTL, Abode Magazine, Ladue News, Max, and Alive Magazine. National publications include Better Homes and Gardens, HGTV Magazine, and Rue. She has contributed to Elle Décor and The Huffington Post, was named “Designer of the Month” by Wayfair, curated a collection of furnishings and home accessories for Joss and Main, and completed the widest publicized One Room Challenges of all time. These accomplishments, along with a run on HGTV’s Design Star and HGTV’s The White Room Challenge, have defined her as a design force to be recognized with.

Growing up as an only child in a small town Jessie grew an affection for decor and art by flipping through her parent’s Architectural Digest magazines and watching Bob Ross’ “Happy Little Trees” after school.  Her earliest memories of decorating go back to childhood when she got into trouble for “reupholstering” the faded, living room wingback chair by scribbling all over the back with a magic marker and even listed “decorating my room” as her hobby in her kindergarten yearbook.

“My favorite memories of going back to school was getting to decorate my locker and I am hesitant to admit decorating my dorm room was the main reason I wanted to go to college. Every major goal in my life has been based on completing a transformation. I absolutely live for it.”

While personally known for her witty sense of humor and fun-loving nature, she takes the business of design seriously…but with a signature JDM twist.  Jessie approaches a design job like a doctor delivering a baby: “At the end of the day it’s your baby and it should look like you!” Her goal is to unfold our client’s lifestyle and blend it with their taste for design in a functional way. “We don’t desire to have a “certain look” for all of our designs, we strive heavily on creating a space that reflects our clients.”

Over the years, she and the team have completed a number of full-scale residential projects in St. Louis and select locations around the country; Dallas, Las Vegas, San Diego, and New York just to name a few.  JDM Interior Design specializes in bespoke interior decorating providing each client a unique experience and completed homes. Designing custom furniture, drapery, rugs, and curating an individual art and accessories package is her passion, she has experience designing custom homes.  Working on a team of talented architects and builders to design and refine every detail that goes into creating a client’s dream home is a long-term commitment that is taken very seriously.  She has successfully completed contemporary new construction and historical preservation projects, large and small-scale remodels, and redecoration.

“I love my business for so many reasons. One of the main ones is that no two days are the same and no two jobs are either. The creative process is endlessly stimulating. When people ask where I find inspiration I almost laugh. It sounds like a trick question, I am never NOT inspired. I see interiors in fashion, art, nature, automobiles… It’s a list that never ends.  There are not enough lifetimes in the universe for me to ever have the time to execute the ideas that run through my mind. Recent projects include the design and decoration of a 15,000 s.f custom home in Edwardsville, Illinois, renovation of a high-end hair salon, a Historic Central West End apartment building lobby, and a Pre-War Manhattan high-rise apartment.

“My personal aesthetic is a traditional foundation with appropriate elements of modern edge. I’m constantly thinking in terms of juxtaposition – blending classics with contemporaries, masculine with feminine, and the tension of light and dark. Art, fashion, and music are the largest influencers in my designs, but inspiration can be found anywhere when you truly have a passion for your work.  I begin each project by spending a lot of time getting to know my clients, learning how they live, and studying what they are attracted to. My passion is creating homes that reflect the unique vibe of each client, from cutting edge to classic.”

While she is known for creating uniquely beautiful spaces, Jessie takes pride in her attention to detail, hard-core work ethic, and fearless ability to overcome obstacles. “I know our biggest strengths here at Jessie D. Miller Interior Design are 1. Adaptability and 2. Resourcefulness.

The project management side of the business is challenging, and something my team takes a lot of pride in. I believe good ideas are a dream forgotten when not executed.”

Her experience and expertise allow her clients to enjoy the fun parts of the design process while she and her team expertly manage the tedious and stressful aspects that happen behind the scenes. “The amount of tedious planning, communication, and follow-up required to execute full-sized design projects is not for the faint-of-heart. It takes someone who truly loves creating the finished project to have the stamina required. I am relentless. And, I’m a lot of fun, ha!”
